Various types of speed limits may influence driver behaviour, and in different ways. These are:
- Maximum vehicle speed.
- Speed limit from road type (e.g. 130km/h on freeways, 80km/h on rural roads).
- Fixed speed signs (e.g. 100km/h on a freeway).
- Dynamic speed signs (e.g. matrix on gantry).
- Various types of local limits (e.g. curvature, bumps, puddle).
For some of these, it is required to decelerate to an appropriate speed before a specific location, while for others a more relaxed approach is suitable. Behaviors for different speed types need to be possible, while classical car-following models (with a free term) need to be supported, resulting in a sensible most critical acceleration.
