Templates for Term Paper formatting
Please use the Springer templates for paper formatting. This gives a good idea what requirements there are for a paper in reality, and it provides you with an indication what a real submitted paper should look like in terms of formatting. The templates have been retrieved from: https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines.
The most professional looking papers are created with LaTeX. This is preferred for this course. A very nice way to use LaTeX in a group is Overleaf, where you can jointly edit the materials. Website: https://www.overleaf.com. For TU Delft you can log on using https://www.overleaf.com/edu/tudelft. The Springer templates can be accessed in Overleaf: https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/springer-lecture-notes-in-computer-science. If you believe learning LaTeX takes too much time, you can also use Word.
Places to find good simulation papers
- Key search engines: SCOPUS, Web of Science, IEEE, ACM, JSTOR. Via: https://databases.tudl.tudelft.nl/?t=az
- Winter Simulation Conferences are an excellent source: https://www.informs-sim.org/
- Key Simulation Journals: JOS, TOMACS, Simulation, SIMPAT, IJSPM, OJMSI.
- Look also in journals relating to the topic itself -- there are plenty. TU Delft has access to e-journals via: https://tudelft.on.worldcat.org/atoztitles/search#journal
Example review paper from a previous year
The paper Group 03 - Verification, Validation and Accreditation.pdf is an example paper from a past class.
Deadline for Term Papers and Presentations
Deadline: Friday 18 October 2024, 17:00.
Make sure you upload all information to the assignment:
- Paper as a PDF and source of the paper (Word or LaTeX file)
- potentially add a ZIP-file with the papers that you reviewed and used as reference
- Presentation to be used (can be uploaded on the day of the presentation itself)
- Prepare for 15 minutes presentation, 5 minutes questions, so it should be an interesting and dense summary (5-7 slides)
- You know your audience (fellow Masterclass students), so make it interesting for them and use the knowledge of the class
- In contrast with the Springer instruction, references should be in Quick_Guide_to_APA_7_Feb2020.pdf APA 7th edition (lots of information on the Internet). Slides are from University of Newcastle, UK
- Style of the paper Springer LNCS Conference Proceedings (see templates above)
